SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Junior quarterback Tony Smith threw three touchdowns and ran for another Saturday to lead Cal Poly to a 38-19 victory over Sacramento State.
Smith finished 12 of 19 for 218 yards. He added 92 yards rushing for Cal Poly (1-0).
Last season, Cal Poly led the Football Championship Subdivision with 487.5 yards per game but lost their head coach, quarterback, leading receiver and top three rushers in the offseason. They still put up 476 yards against the Hornets (0-2), who had four turnovers.

Jason Smith finished 16 of 30 for 217 yards and two scores.
