HAMPTON, Va. -- Antwon Chisholm carried 17 times for 98 yards, including a 7-yard second-quarter touchdown, as Hampton defeated Norfolk State 7-6 on Saturday.
Quarterback David Legree completed passes of 30 yards to Javaris Brown and 20 yards to Isiah Thomas on the drive that gave the Pirates (5-1, 4-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 7-0 halftime lead.
The Spartans scored in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by DeAngelo Branche, who gained 132 yards on 25 carries. But Ryan Estep missed the extra point.
Norfolk State reached the Hampton 37 later in the period, but Ricardo Silva intercepted Chris Walley's pass at the 5.
In the fourth period, the Spartans twice lost the ball on downs, the second time with 27 seconds left. After Walley drove them to the Hampton 38 with three completions, the drive stalled, and his fourth-down scramble was stopped after 2 yards.
