TULSA, Okla. -- Damaris Johnson amassed 322 yards and scored three times as Tulsa smashed Rice 64-27 on Saturday.
Johnson had eight catches for 163 yards, two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 94 yards for another score. He also moved into first place in the Conference USA record books for career kickoff return yards.
Quarterback G.J. Kinne threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns and added 46 yards rushing as the Golden Hurricane (6-3, 3-2 Conference USA) rode the momentum of last week's victory over Notre Dame.
Johnson had all of his receiving yards in the first half, including a 41-yard halfback pass for a touchdown from Genesis Cole. He wrapped up his day after the kickoff return early in the third quarter.
The Owls (2-7, 1-4) scored first on a 50-yard strike from Nick Fanuzzi to Patrick Randolph, then were outscored 41-0 the remainder of the first half.
After the Owls scored on a 55-yard scoring pass from Taylor Cook to Luke Wilson to cut the lead to 41-13, Tulsa blocked the extra point and John Flanders returned it for two points.
Then Johnson scampered 94 yards up the center off the field on the ensuing kickoff, his second career kickoff return for a touchdown. His punt return for a touchdown helped the Hurricane upset the Fighting Irish a week ago.
Tulsa's Alex Singleton scored on a pair of 1-yard plunges and Willie Carter raced 13 yards for another score.
Kinne also threw scoring strikes to Trae Johnson, Damaris Johnson, Thomas Roberson and Trey Watts. The Hurricane rolled up 612 yards, including 439 passing.
Sam McGuffie ran for 178 yards on 28 carries for the Owls. Quarterbacks Cook and Fanuzzi combined to complete 8 of 18 for 221 yards.
