MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Devin Dominguez threw four touchdown passes and Alabama State held off Jackson State 32-30 on Saturday night to move into first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division.
The Hornets (6-3, 5-3) led 25-10 at halftime, but the Tigers scored 40 seconds into the second half on a 53-yard pass from Casey Therriault to Anthony Mayes. The two-point conversion failed, which proved pivotal later in the game.
After Therriault scored on a 6-yard run to cut the gap to 25-23, Dominguez threw an 11-yard scoring pass to T.C. McWilliams.
Jackson State (6-3, 4-3) again pulled within two points with 3:50 left on Therriault's 1-yard run. Alabama State then ran out the clock, helped by an unsportmanlike conduct penalty after a Jackson State defender spiked the ball to celebrate a stop on third down.
Dominguez and Therriault each threw three interceptions.
