ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Malcolm Long passed for 275 yards and two touchdowns to lead South Carolina State to a 54-14 win over Howard on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (7-2, 5-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) have won eight of the past nine games in the series.
South Carolina State bolted to a 37-7 halftime lead. The Bulldogs piled up 390 yards in total offense while holding Howard to 179 total yards. Chris Merrill rushed for three touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Howard suffered from five turnovers, including four interceptions. A pass thrown by Bison quarterback Terry Bradden was intercepted by Marsh McFadden and returned 40 yards for the Bulldogs' first score. Joe Thomas scooped up a Howard fumble and returned it 11 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Bradden passed for 172 yards and a touchdown for Howard (1-9, 0-7).
