WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Gunnar Jespersen scored four touchdowns and threw a 2-point conversion pass to Josue Paul in the second overtime for Central Connecticut State's 49-48 win over Monmouth on Saturday.
Jespersen brought the Blue Devils (7-3, 6-1 Northeast Conference) within 48-47 on a 3-yard bootleg run before going for the win rather than another extra period. Jespersen was 16-for-29 passing with 225 yards and three touchdowns, and added another TD on the ground.
Everette Benjamin added 184 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries for the Blue Devils, who sent the game into overtime on a 7-yard TD pass from Jespersen to P.J. Borawski.
Monmouth (3-7, 3-4) led 41-28 early in the third, but after a 1-yard TD run by Eric Richardson, Jespersen's pass tied it.
