HOUSTON -- Greg Jenkins ran for a touchdown and threw for another to help Alabama State beat Texas Southern 43-29 on Saturday.
Bobby Wenzig kicked five field goals for the Hornets (5-1, 5-0 SWAC).
Alabama State trailed 22-16 in the third quarter but went ahead for good on Jenkins' 4-yard TD pass to Nick Andrews and Wenzig's extra point. After the Tigers were forced to punt, a bad snap was recovered by Jazeric Peterson in the end zone for another score, giving the Hornets a 30-22 lead.
Marcus Wright ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns for Texas Southern (2-3, 1-3). The game was a rematch of last season's SWAC championship game, won by Texas Southern 11-6.
