COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Courtney Lewis and Texas A&M
managed to make the most of limited opportunities against Kansas
Lewis scored three times with just 71 rushing yards to help the
Aggies post a 42-30 victory over the Wildcats in a Big 12
The Aggies (3-1, 1-0 Big 12 South) - who had 43 plays to 90 for
the Wildcats - managed to score quickly three times in the first
half. Terrance Murphy capped a three-play drive with a 29-yard
touchdown toss from Reggie McNeal and Lewis crossed the goal
line twice on drives of four and five plays.
Kansas State's Dylan Meier found Yamon Figurs for a 20-yard
score just before halftime to cut the lead to 21-14. Meier was
29-for-45 for a career-high 246 yards and three touchdowns.
Darren Sproles' fumble in the third quarter led to a four-yard
TD by Jason Carter just three plays later to give Texas A&M a
28-17 lead. Sproles was held to 66 yards rushing on 20 carries
and caught six passes for 48 yards for Kansas State (2-2, 0-1
Defensive back Japhus Brown ended the third quarter by
intercepting Meier and returning it to the Kansas State 3.
Lewis scored his third touchdown on the next play.
Lewis is the first Aggie with 17 rushing TDs in his first 15
Kansas State cut the lead to 35-30 when Meier tossed a pair of
TDs to Jermaine Moreira in the fourth. But McNeal put the game
away with a career-best 62-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds
Texas A&M has won the last four meetings.
