Central Florida ground game buries Tulane

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Kevin Smith ran for 113 yards and a
touchdown, and he also threw a pass to Darcy Johnson for a key
third-quarter score to lead Central Florida to a 34-24 win over
Tulane on Friday night.

Smith had a long run of 44 yards among his 18 carries, and Jason
Peters added 111 yards on just nine carries to lead UCF to 286
yards rushing.

UCF (4-3, 3-1 Conference USA) led 27-21 when Smith found Johnson
on a halfback pass with 3:19 left in the third quarter. Johnson had
three catches for 32 yards in the game, while Brandon Marshall led
UCF with 10 catches for 110 yards.

Lester Ricard tossed three touchdown passes and four
interceptions. Ricard went 27-of-47 for 360 yards. He found Preston
Brown on a 44-yard pass play with 10:21 left in the first half that
gave Tulane (2-4, 1-3) a 14-13 lead.

But UCF answered when Peters busted loose for a 50 yard
touchdown run, then added another touchdown with 7 seconds left in
the half on a 7-yard scoring pass from Steven Moffett to Mike
Peters that made the score 27-14.

Moffett was 17-of-20 with no interceptions. John Brown had field
goals of 32 and 22 yards for the Golden Knights.

UCFs 27 points and 307 yards of offense in the first half were
both records for the team under coach George O'Leary era.
