DURHAM, N.H. (AP) -- Ricky Santos threw for 153 yards and David
Ball caught two passes for 42 yards as the University of New
Hampshire beat Iona College 56-0 in a non-conference win Saturday.
Robert Simpson led New Hampshire's ground game with 122 rushing
yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Matt O'Brien rushed nine
times for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Henry was the top
receiver with 64 yards on four catches.
Iona (3-7) offense was led by Greg Bielski's 74 rushing yards on
24 carries. Michael Biehl was 8-for-26 for 168 yards and two
New Hampshire (9-1) took a 23-0 lead in the first quarter with a
40-yard touchdown run from Aaron Brown and a one-yard rushing
touchdown from Keith LeVan. Following a safety in which a bad snap
to Iona punter Chris Lofrese was batted out of the end zone, John
McCoy scored on a five-yard run.
New Hampshire scored three more rushing touchdowns in the second
quarter, including two from O'Brien. Santos and Ball left the game
36 seconds into the quarter.
After a scoreless third period, Simpson scored on one-yard and
five-yard runs in the last quarter.<
