EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Matt Trannon set a school-record with 14 catches and Drew Stanton accounted for five touchdowns as Michigan State beat Eastern Michigan 52-20 on Saturday.

Trannon had 151 yards receiving, caught two touchdowns and threw a 35-yard scoring pass to A.J. Jimmerson. Stanton threw three TD passes and ran for two scores.

Michigan State (2-0) was up 24-3 with just over four minutes left in the first half when the Eagles (0-2) scored two quick touchdowns before halftime. One TD came on a trick play that ended with a 39-yard scoring pass from wide receiver Dontayo Gage to Travis Lewis.

The Eagles crept closer shortly after recovering a fumble by Javon Ringer on the second-half kickoff. Four plays later, Andrew Wellock made a 38-yard field goal to pull Eastern Michigan within 24-20.

The Spartans then scored two straight touchdowns -- a Stanton 1-yard run and an 8-yard pass to T.J. Williams -- to go ahead 38-20.

They scored again on the first play of the last quarter, when Stanton hit Trannon on a 7-yard scoring pass to put Michigan State ahead 45-20.

Stanton left with about 10 minutes left in the game, finishing 24-for-32 for 254 yards.

Michigan State scored 24 straight points in the first half, capped by a razzle-dazzle play in which Trannon fired a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jimmerson, who was wide open in the end zone.

Ringer had a 65-yard run, the longest of his college career, to set up Stanton's 17-yard scoring toss to Trannon.

On the play, Stanton, a senior, became the sixth quarterback in Michigan State history to reach 5,000 career passing yards.

Ringer ran for 130 yards on 15 carries.

Although their campuses in East Lansing and Ypsilanti are about 55 miles apart, it was only the seventh game between the two schools. The Spartans won all six previous contests, the last being a 56-7 rout at home in 2002.
