Nicholls State 14, Southeastern Louisiana 10

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) -- Michael McLendon scored on a 3-yard run to lift Nicholls State to a 14-10 win over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday.

Nicholls (2-3, 1-0 Southland Conference) rushed for 331 yards and held Southeastern (1-5, 0-1) to 287 total yards.

The Colonels relied on the running game with Broderick Cole rushing for 101 yards on 15 carries, quarterback Vincent Montgomery going for 96 yards on 13 carries and McLendon adding 76 yards on nine carries. Montgomery completed 3-of-7 for 18 yards passing.

Cole opened the scoring with a 2-yard run with 11:21 left in the first quarter.

The Lions led at halftime after scoring on a 24-yard field goal by Jeff Turner and a 22-yard TD run by Mario Gilbert, who finished with 97 yards on 17 rushes.

NSU then scored with 3:52 left in the third quarter on McLendon's run, and held off the Lions who had several chances. In a last ditch effort, the Lions brought on true freshman quarterback Bradd Schlosser. He drove the Lions from their own 5-yard line to the Nicholls 23 when he threw three straight incompletions and turned the ball over on downs.

Seth Babin completed 11-of-21 passes for 63 yards and Schlosser was 6-of-11 for 55 yards for the Lions. Crawford Kilpatrick led Southeastern in catches with six for 46 yards.
