CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Arkee Whitlock ran for 187 yards and four touchdowns Saturday to lead Southern Illinois to a 47-23 win over Northern Iowa.
Northern Iowa trailed 16-13 after the first quarter, but was eventually done in by three interceptions thrown by quarterback Eric Sanders. Both teams combined to roll up more than 800 yards of total offense.
Saluki quarterback Nick Hill completed 12-of-15 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns -- the first two Saluki scores of the game. Whitlock finished with 40 carries.
Hill's top target was Braden Jones, who had four receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Tailback Corey Lewis had 21 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns for Northern Iowa (6-4, 4-2 Gateway). Sanders completed 15-of-24 passes for 204 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Sanders entered the game having thrown three interceptions on the season.
The balanced Salukis (7-3, 4-3 Gateway) finished with 211 yards rushing and 204 yards passing, and scored on all seven trips to the Panther red zone.
