CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- Eastern Illinois scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Southeast Missouri State 31-16 Saturday.
After a scoreless first quarter that included eight possession changes and a missed field goal by EIU (3-2, 2-0 Ohio Valley), SE Missouri (2-3, 0-2) took the lead 10 seconds into the second quarter on a 52-yard TD run by Timmy Holloman.
After two Doug Spada field goals gave SE Missouri a 13-7 lead, Reeder connected with Jordan Campanella on a 5-yard TD pass with less than a minute remaining in the half to give EIU a 14-13 halftime lead.
SE Missouri took a 16-14 lead on another Spada field goal in the third quarter, but EIU scored on a 45-yard pass from Reeder to Micah Rucker to regain the lead for good. Ademola Adeniji rushed 1 yard for EIUs final TD with 18 seconds left in the third.
Rashad Haynes had two interceptions for Eastern Illinois, including one that he returned for over 80 yards to set up a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Reeder completed 13-of-28 passes for 159 yards.
Ron Jordan gained 115 yards rushing on 16 carries for EIU. Holloman led the Redhawks offense with 133 yards on 28 carries, and quarterback Steve Callanan was 7-of-18 for 60 yards.
