RICHMOND, Ky. -- Eastern Kentucky had to withstand a fourth-quarter rally for a 16-8 victory over Morehead State on Saturday night.
Eastern Kentucky's Allan Holland was 15-for-27 for 191 yards and C.J. Walker rushed for 58 yards and the Colonels' only touchdown, a 17-yard run with 6:06 left in the third quarter.
Taylor Long kicked field goals of 22, 22 and 28 yards for the Colonels (1-2).
Eastern Kentucky built what seemed to be a safe 16-0 lead with 9:55 left and the Eagles having mustered only five first downs when Morehead State (1-2) took over on its own 25-yard line.
But Morehead State's Evan Sawyer found Jerrod Pendleton in the left corner of the end zone on an 11-yard touchdown pass to bring the Eagles to within 16-6 with 4:18 remaining in the game.
Sawyer hit Nick Feldman for the 2-point conversion and then recovered an onside kick at Morehead State's 49-yard line.
The Eagles drove to the 40-yard line before Sawyer's pass was picked off by Brandon Gathof at the 14-yard line with 2:34 left.
Eastern Kentucky's Shannon Davis had five receptions for 55 yards, all on an opening 74-yard drive that culminated with Long's 22-yard field goal.
Morehead State was paced by Sawyer, who was 15-for-30 for 116 yards.
Feldman led the Eagles with 57 yards on five carries.
