NORMAL, Ill. -- Cody Kirby ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Missouri State to a 34-28 victory over Illinois State on Saturday.
Missouri State (3-3, 2-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference) was down 0-3 after the first period, before Kirby, playing quarterback, ran in a pair of touchdowns in the second period.
The score was an even 14-14 going into the break.
Kirby went on to score another pair of touchdowns in the last period, rushing for 1 yard and completing a 77-yard pass to Justin Fuselier.
Illinois State (2-4, 1-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) out-rushed Missouri State 351 to 190 yards. Geno Blow led the Redbirds with a touchdown in the second period off a 53-yard run. Blow rushed for 140 yards overall.
Parrish Fisher and W. Mendenhall also had touchdowns for Illinois State. Zach Kutch scored a 43-yard field goal in the third period.
Missouri State rallied in the fourth period, scoring 20 points to Illinois State's 2 points. The Bears had 444 total offensive yards, less than Illinois state's 476. Missouri State also out-passed the Redbirds, going 254 yards to 125.
Redbird quarterback Kevin Brockway was sacked twice on the night. He had 125 yards to Kirby's 254.
