CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Jamal Young rushed for a career-high 162 yards and three touchdowns to lead Jacksonville State to a 28-23 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (4-0, 1-0 Ohio Valley), who upset Mississippi to open the season, extended their winning streak to eight games, dating back to last year. They have also won eight straight away from home, the longest active FCS road streak in the country.

Jimmy Potempa led the Panthers (0-4, 0-2) with 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Jacksonville State built a 28-9 lead before Eastern Illinois added two late TDs.

Young, who carried the ball 18 times, scored all of his touchdowns in the second quarter, included one on a run of 76 yards.

Alphonso Freeney scored the Gamecocks' other TD on an 8-yard run in the fourth.
