Kent St. 28, Akron 17

KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State defense forced five turnovers and scored on two of them as the Golden Flashes beat Akron 28-17 in Mid-American Conference play on Saturday.

Leading 21-17 with 3:08 left in the game, Golden Flashes defensive lineman Roosevelt Nix sacked Akron's Patrick Nicely in the end zone to force a fumble that Luke Batton recovered for the final touchdown.

Kent State (2-3, 1-1) safety Luke Wollett intercepted Nicely for a 12-yard touchdown return in the first quarter to even the score at 7-7.

Spencer Keith threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Tyshon Goode and Jacquise Terry scored on a 6-yard run to increase Kent State's lead to 21-7 with 2:06 left before halftime.

Jeremy LaFrance scored on a 10-yard run for Akron in the third quarter to make the score 21-17, but the late turnover by the Zips (0-6, 0-2) was too much to overcome.
