We all dance for ice cream

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood planned an offense vs. defense dance-off, complete with an ice cream prize. Players went all out: The worm -- and a belly -- made an appearance.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva pinch hit for Les Miles at his weekly luncheon. Miles had a headache this morning and was checked out at the hospital as a precautionary measure. Alleva's statement: "Obviously Coach Miles is not here. He’s a little bit under the weather. He was working this morning in his office. He didn’t feel very well, he went down to see the trainers, the trainers thought it would be best for him to go to the hospital and get checked out on a precautionary basis. We feel like he’s fine. He’ll be at practice today and he will be available to all of you after practice.”

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said he has a "good idea" as to who will start at QB for the Seminoles. Fisher said he wants to tell his team first and then will alert the media. Fisher will speak after practice today, so a decision should be announced publicly Monday evening. Practice begins around 4:30.

Wisconsin RB Corey Clement said he's looking forward to battling Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott for Big Ten rushing title. "May the best man win," he says. Also will measure himself vs. Nick Chubb & Leonard Fournette.

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury doesn't plan to name a starter between Davis Webb and Pat Mahomes. He said both "deserve to start" at QB. However, he did say he prefers to go with one guy and isn't necessarily planning to play both. Looks like Tech will go with the hot hand and the competition will continue during the season. My money's still on Mahomes.

SEC football is right around the corner

With days remaining until the start of the college football season, it's time to dust off your LSU cowboy boots, break out your Texas A&M belt, and iron your Vols flag.

McGee: Surprises in college football

In 2013, no one saw Jameis Winston coming. In 2014, no one saw Ohio State or its title-winning quarterback(s). So what out-of-left-field storyline does Ryan McGee predict for this season? Don't sleep on the Pac-12

Looking for a potential X-factor at Alabama? Keep an eye on CB Marlon Humphrey, who could help settle a secondary that struggled down the stretch last season. The former five-star recruit redshirted last year, but was listed as a starter in today’s depth chart. Coach Nick Saban said of Humphrey, “He’s done a really good job this fall camp. He’s more confident.”

Texas starting a pair of true freshmen OL, LT Connor Williams and RG Patrick Vahe, is interesting. They get thrown into the fire starting their first game at Notre Dame. LB Malik Jefferson and WR John Burt should make 4 true freshman to start the opener with several on the two deep. Charlie Strong is definitely going with his guys, looks to be a strong Class of 2015

Meyer not ready to name a starter

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is staying mum on how the QB competition between J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones is shaking out: "I'll announce the starter when the first guy takes the snap."

West Virginia expects true freshman WR Jovon Durante to start vs Georgia Southern. Dana Holgorsen praised his speed, route running and ball skills. He could play a major role in helping to replace Kevin White

So Chad Kelly will take the first snap with the first-team offense in practice today, and barring a change, that will lead up to Saturday. But he's not officially the Ole Miss starting QB yet. And Alabama is going with "Jake Coker/Cooper Bateman/Alec Morris" as the starter in Week 1. Or at least that's how it reads on the depth chart. I'm glad I'm not in one of these SEC QB battles.

Gamecocks to honor 'Emanuel 9'

South Carolina football players will wear stickers on their helmets this season to honor the nine people who died in the shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C., this past June.

Alabama just released its depth chart for the season-opener against Wisconsin. Nick Saban not tipping his hand, going with a three-man look at QB: Jake Coker, Cooper Bateman, Alec Morris. Expect two to get reps and a third to be in more of a reserved role.

Nebraska coach Mike Riley says the Big Ten, with Ohio State's rise, reminds him of the Pac-12 as USC ruled under Pete Carroll. "You've either gotta get going or get left in the dust."

Meyer: 'I'd like to see both guys involved'

A final decision in Ohio State's quarterback derby won't be revealed until just before the season kicks off, with coach Urban Meyer saying J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones could both see action. "We'll announce the starter when the first guy takes the snap," Meyer said. "It's still very close. ... If it was different skill sets, we probably would [need to decide], but they're not."

Coach Rhoads on what ISU needs to do to win the opener this year: We need to play better. When adversity comes we need to respond to it.

Jake Trotter ESPN Staff Writer

Monday, Texas unveiled its Week 1 depth chart, which included a pair of true freshman starters on the offensive line in left tackle Connor Williams and right guard Patrick Vahe. Charlie Strong, a former defensive coordinator, acknowledged he expects Notre Dame to come after his QB Tyrone Swoopes early and often Saturday. "If I see two freshman linemen, I'm gonna blitz you."

Ted Miller ESPN Staff Writer

We have a degree of certainty for 11 of 12 PAC-12 QB slots, with Washington and Chris Petersen being the lone holdout, though only for strategic purposes. Oregon State will play both true freshman Seth Collins and redshirt frosh Marcus McMaryion in the opener. UCLA and Oregon went with new guys, frosh Josh Rosen & transfer Vernon Adams. Washington States Luke Falk and Utah's Travis Wilson held off challengers.

Mitch Sherman ESPN Staff Writer

Week 1 depth chart is out at Nebraska, showing new starters at RG (Chongo Kondolo), RT (Nick Gates), TE (David Sutton), IB (Terrell Newby), LB (Dedrick Young), CB (Jonathan Rose) and LS (Jordan Ober). WR Brandon Reilly and LG Dylan Utter have one start each.
