Houston just put the finishing touches on a 49-28 win over SMU to improve to 5-0. The Coogs could be inching closer to the top 25 if they keep rolling. QB Greg Ward had an impressive night: 16-of-18 passing, 243 yards, 82 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs. Definitely one of the best players in the Group of 5 conferences.

Ward runs for another TD

Greg Ward Jr. now has 11 rushing touchdowns this season, tied with Leonard Fournette for the FBS lead. Ward had 8 rushing TDs in the previous 2 seasons combined. Houston leads SMU 49-21 in the fourth on ESPN2.

Houston's defense starting to come alive here at TDECU Stadium. SMU's last four drives have ended in two fumbles, turnover on downs and a punt. They're getting more pressure on SMU QB Matt Davis than they were earlier. Cougars in control, up 35-21 with 6:24 to go in Q3 and with a chance to widen the gap some more here.

Houston takes a 2-touchdown lead

Greg Ward Jr. ran for a 10-yard TD, his second straight game with 3 rushing TDs. The Cougars lead the Mustangs 35-21 in the third on ESPN2.

Cody Kessler led the USC offense 81 yards in 4:34, but the Huskies managed to hold the Trojans to a field goal to end the half. It's the first time since Week 9 of 2011 that USC has not scored a TD in the first half (Oct. 29 vs. Stanford). Live on ESPN/WatchESPN

Rough first quarter for USC QB Cody Kessler vs. Washington. He finished just 4-of-9 for 39 yards and threw a pair of interceptions after throwing just one pick in the previous four games. USC still managed to take a 3-0 lead into the second quarter.

Arash Markazi @ArashMarkazi

Cody Kessler is 2/7 for -1 yard and 2 interceptions but the game is still scoreless. Washington can't capitalize on his mistakes.

I watched both of these QBs last year and seeing them tonight, it's clear both Houston's Greg Ward and SMU's Matt Davis have taken significant steps forward in their development. Both are having strong nights so far. It's all tied up 21-21 late in the second quarter in Houston.
