A week before the season opener, Florida State still doesn't have a starting quarterback, a stark contrast to the last several years with the likes of Christian Ponder, E.J. Manuel and Jameis Winston. Coach Jimbo Fisher said he will name a starter when he is ready, and that might be after the Week 1 game against Texas State. Everett Golson and Sean Maguire are still competing.

Ducks tab Adams as Mariota's successor

In a release, Illinois AD Mike Thomas said he learned of "efforts to deter injury reporting and influence medical decisions that pressured players to avoid or postpone medical treatment and continue playing despite injuries," adding, "I expect my coaches to protect players and foster their success on and off the field."
