Charlotte coach Karen Aston resigns

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte coach Karen Aston has resigned after four seasons on the job and a week after leading the 49ers to the WNIT semifinals.

Aston left Wednesday without securing another job. She said in a news release she wants to be closer to her family in Arkansas.

Athletic director Judy Rose says she's "both shocked and disappointed" with Aston's decision, which came a year after they agreed to a contract extension through the 2014-15 season. Rose says a nationwide search ...
