PLAYER TO WATCH

Shay Doron

Shay Doron is the first Terrapin women's basketball player to be named to an All-ACC squad as a freshman and here's guesing it won't be the last time she's on this team. A third-team selection this season, she's had a memorable season. In her first-collegiate appearance, she tied the NCAA record and broke the ACC mark with 23 free throws in a game. She's obviously money from the charity stripe -- she's shooting 77 percent from the line -- and she averages 13 points a game.

ANALYSIS BY ESPN'S STACEY DALES-SCHUMAN
Stacey Dales-SchumanBrenda Frese is living up to the billing of one of the greatest turnaround coaches in the game today. After challenging the seasoned Duke Blue Devils in the ACC tournament and finishing third in the conference, there is no debating that this improved flock will shake its stuff at the big party. Finishing ACC play with a storm of confidence, the Terrapins have been led by the play of newcomer Shay Doron. This gritty competitor from New York is leading her team with 13 points in addition to defending players like Duke's Alana Beard. It will be interesting to see how this freshman endures her first NCAA tournament.

If you thought that having one frosh standout might light a bright torch for Maryland's future, how about having two. The always aggressive Kalika France has become the team's second best scorer with 12 points and an explosive 6 boards. France has the quickness and agility that enable her to simply, make plays. She is the type of player that can turn a game around with motivated energy and hanging jumpers.

Delvona Oliver entered the season in perhaps the best shape of her career and, as a result, is much improved this season. While the smooth moving forward draws attention inside, she has tendency to catch the opposition off-guard because she can step out beyond the paint to calmly and consistently stroke 16-footers. Her leadership is essential to a squad that carries four rookies and three sophomores.

Without towering size, Maryland has relied largely on the play of its guards to win games. Throughout the season, the young Terrapins have done a better job adapting to situations and styles of the opposition as evident by their heightened play in the ACC tournament. They are a club that has shot well from deep, but this may have dwindled slightly having lost junior sharpshooter Alli Spence for personal reasons -- she was good for 50 percent of her three-point bombs. A team that loses the ball 18 times per game, Maryland must be in constant protection mode during tournament play. Like most, the Terrapins are a club that performs significantly better when they outrebound their rivals on the glass with an aggressive attack -- aggression definitely being the key for this group. Above all, be clear that when the action begins in this year's March Madness, you will see a team that has one of the brightest future's in the game especially since they bring in one of the top 5 recruiting classes next year.
