Duke freshman Brittany Hunter is expected to be sidelined four weeks after suffering a slight tear in the lateral meniscus in her right knee Sunday, Blue Devils officials announced Monday.
Hunter, who sustained the injury six minutes into Duke's 93-63 victory over Purdue in the Jimmy V Classic (her third game with the Blue Devils), will undergo surgery on Tuesday at the Duke Medical Center.
In her college debut in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 16, the 2003 Parade High School National Player of the Year tallied 16 points, five rebounds and five blocks -- the most by a Duke player since Jan. 18, 1992 -- while shooting 8-for-11 off the bench.
In her second game, against Elon, Hunter hit 6 of 10 field goals and finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
The Columbus, Ohio, native, is averaging 16.3 minutes, 11.0 points and 4.3 rebounds and shooting 65.2 percent from the field.
