Taurasi injured back in win over St. John's
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut All-American Diana Taurasi is expected to play against top-ranked Tennessee on Thursday despite injuring her back in a win over St. John's.
Team officials said Sunday that Taurasi planned to play. Taurasi was hit in the back after blocking a shot early in the Huskies' 82-49 win Saturday. Coach Geno Auriemma sat Taurasi out for the remainder of the game as a precaution.
Taurasi told Auriemma she was fine and could probably return to play. She told The Associated Press after the game she felt fine.
"I'm feeling all right, a little minor injury," she said.
Taurasi, last year's player of the year, leads the Huskies (No. 3 ESPN/USA Today; No. 4 AP) with 17.4 points and 4.4 assists a game.
