K-State next for Tigers
DALLAS -- Megan Roney made 7 of 8 shots for 15 points and Stretch James added 14 points and nine rebounds, leading Missouri to an easy 75-52 victory over Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in the first round of the Big 12 women's tournament.
The Tigers (17-11) led 13-1 in the opening minutes and were up by 24 before halftime. The lead peaked at 29 and was never lower than 20 the rest of the way, a nice change for Missouri after winning its regular-season finale on a free throw by Evan Unrau with 7.9 seconds left.
Unrau, a two-time all-Big 12 honoree, made just one field goal and scored a season-low six points this time, but contributed seven assists, tying her career high.
Next up for Missouri is No. 8 Kansas State on Wednesday. K-State beat Mizzou 93-90 in double-overtime on Feb. 22. The Tigers have won four straight since.
Eliz Gomes led Oklahoma State (8-20) with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
The Cowgirls closed the season on a 10-game losing streak that included a 25-point loss to Missouri on Feb. 14. They avoided that same margin with a buzzer-beating layup by Nina Stone, who scored 17.
The Tigers put this one away early by making 13 of their first 16 shots, including 4-of-5 on 3-pointers. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, needed 6:18 before making its first field goal.
Missouri shot 19-of-29 (66 percent) in the first half, but only 12-of-33 (36 percent) in the second half.
