Elway signs letter of intent for Cardinal
STANFORD, Calif. -- The daughter of former Stanford and Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway has signed a letter of intent to play for the university's women's basketball team.
Jessica Elway, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward from Englewood, Colo., averaged 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds as a senior at Cherry Creek High School. Elway was the team captain for three years and a four-year letter winner. She also had 61 assists as a senior.
Her team finished second in this year's state tournament, and Elway earned second-team All-State honors.
Her father starred at Stanford from 1979 to '82 before being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1983 NFL draft. At the end of his career, Elway led the Broncos to two Super Bowl victories.
Jessica's mother, Janet, divorced from John, was on the Stanford swim team for the 1979-80 season.
