Verdi had been team's acting coach

NEW YORK -- Paul Nixon was appointed Tuesday as the women's basketball coach at Columbia after serving as an assistant coach at Indiana.

Nixon replaces Tony Verdi, who had been the acting coach since February.

Prior to his stint at Indiana, Nixon was an assistant at Southern Mississippi, Nevada-Reno and Marshall.

He is a 1993 graduate of Vanderbilt.
