Cyclones have six 20-win seasons in 10 years
AMES, Iowa -- Bill Fennelly, who coached Iowa State to its sixth 20-win season in 10 years, had his contract extended until 2011 on Wednesday.
Fennelly is 215-97 at Iowa State with seven NCAA tournament appearances. The Cyclones finished 23-7 this season and were unbeaten at home.
"Under Coach Fennelly's leadership, the Iowa State women's basketball program continues to excel both on and off the court," athletic director Bruce Van De Velde said.
Fennelly's contract had last been extended in 2002, taking him through the 2008-09 season. He has a total salary package of more than $300,000.
Iowa State had never played in the NCAA tournament before Fennelly arrived in 1995.
He guided Iowa State to the program's only conference championships, winning the Big 12 tournament in 2000 and 2001. The Cyclones reached the regional finals of the 1999 NCAA tournament and twice advanced to the round of 16.
