Valentin ties NCAA women's free-throw record with 60
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana's Cyndi Valentin tied the NCAA women's Division I season record with 60 straight free throws, making all four of her attempts in a 69-64 loss to Minnesota (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) on Monday night.
Valentin made two free throws in the first half and tied the record with two more with 5:38 left in the second half. That put her at 76-of-78 (97.4 percent) from the line for the season. She fouled out with 13 points with 26 seconds to go.
Ginny Doyle of Richmond set the Division I season record by hitting her first 60 attempts in 1991-92. She also set the overall record of 66, including her final six attempts from the previous season.
The NCAA women's record for all divisions is 69 by Jamie Visness of Division III Concordia-Moorhead in 2002-03.
