Indiana's Valentin breaks free throw record

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Indiana's Cyndi Valentin set an NCAA
women's Division I season record Thursday night by hitting her 61st
consecutive free throw.

Valentin, who tied the previous record of 60 on Monday, hit her
first attempt during Indiana's 69-56 victory over Northwestern. She
missed her next one and was 2-of-4 for the game, putting her at
78-of-82 (95.1 percent) for the season.

Valentin led the Hoosiers with 19 points.

Ginny Doyle of Richmond hit her first 60 attempts in 1991-92 and
she still holds the overall record of 66, including her final six
attempts from the previous season.

The NCAA women's record for all divisions is 69 by Jamie Visness
of Division III Concordia-Moorhead in 2002-03.
