Hardaker to be named UCO women's hoops coach
EDMOND, Okla. -- Edmond Santa Fe boys basketball coach Guy Hardaker is expected to be named next week as the new head women's coach at the University of Central Oklahoma.
UCO officials wouldn't confirm Hardaker is the new coach, but his hiring was reported Friday in The Edmond Sun and The Oklahoman. A news conference announcing the new hire is planned for Wednesday, said Mike Kirk, a spokesman for UCO's athletic department.
''We're not going to officially announce anything until then," Kirk said Friday.
The Lady Bronchos were 24-30 the last two years under Shawn Williams, who resigned March 9 after two seasons as head coach. The team was 7-20 this past season.
The Lady Bronchos have had a winning conference record just twice in the last 13 seasons.
Hardaker, a former UCO baseball player, spent the past 12 seasons at Edmond Santa Fe, which won the Class 6A state title in 2005 and fell in the semifinals to Putnam City this year.
