Lamar names TCU assistant Tidwell head coach
BEAUMONT, Texas -- Larry Tidwell, who spent the last eight seasons as associate head coach at TCU, was named women's head coach at Lamar on Wednesday.
Tidwell, who coordinated recruiting for the Lady Frogs, helped lead TCU to 173 wins and seven straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. He was an assistant coach at Baylor and the athletic director at Mexia High School before going to TCU.
"He has head coaching experience, which was important, and has been very successful wherever he has been," said Billy Tubbs, Lamar's athletic director. "He is someone who I think can bring pride and enthusiasm back to the women's basketball program."
Tidwell succeeds Leonard Drake, who resigned Feb. 20 after suffering severe chest pains following a game. Drake had a record of 37-94 in four seasons at Lamar.
