Duke's Gay, Cheek have shoulder surgery
Duke's Joy Cheek and Carrem Gay each had shoulder surgery Friday and are expected to be ready to play next season.
Cheek and Gay had both suffered shoulder instability during the season.
The surgeries were performed by team physician Dr. Alison Toth.
This is the second straight year Gay, a sophomore who started all 34 games and averaged 8.8 points, had offseason surgery. Cheek also had surgery on her right shoulder late in the summer of 2005.
