CHICAGO -- DePaul coach Doug Bruno has signed a contract extension through the 2011-12 season, the university announced Thursday.

Bruno, who has guided the program to five straight NCAA Tournament appearances, is entering his 22nd season on the bench at his alma mater.

"When Gene Sullivan asked me to coach the DePaul women in the mid-70s, I never imagined that coaching the DePaul women would grow into a lifetime passion," Bruno said.

In 21 seasons at DePaul, Bruno holds a 394-230 record while leading the program to 12 NCAA Tournament berths. His 394 victories with the Blue Demons are ranked 40th among all active coaches.

Along with his DePaul success, Bruno has also achieved success at national and international levels. During the past two summers, Bruno led the United States to a pair of gold medals. In 2006, he guided the United States' U18 women to the FIBA Americas gold, followed by a 2007 gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championships.
