EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State forward Aisha Jefferson will miss the season because of a knee injury.
Spartans coach Suzy Merchant said Monday that the 6-foot junior tore a ligament in Michigan State's exhibition victory over Lake Superior State on Sunday.
Jefferson averaged 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds for Michigan State last season and was considered a leader for the Spartans both on and off the floor.
Michigan State opens its season at home Friday against Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis.
