The Lady Vols (22-1) picked up 27 first-place votes and 769 points to return to the No 1 spot. Connecticut (22-1), which fell to Rutgers last Wednesday, still managed three first-place votes and 734 points to easily remain second. The Huskies had been No. 1 for six straight weeks.
North Carolina (22-2) remained No. 3, while Rutgers (19-4) climbed from seventh to fourth, thanks to the win over UConn and near-win at Tennessee. The Scarlet Knights lost at Knoxville, thanks to a foul call with 0.2 seconds left that gave Tennessee a pair of free throws and a one-point win.
Maryland (25-2) slipped from fourth to fifth. Baylor (21-1), which was fifth a week ago, fell to eighth, trailing No. 6 Stanford (22-3) and No. 7 LSU (20-3).
California (21-3) and Oklahoma (17-4) round out the top 10.
Only one new team entered the rankings: Marist (23-2) is 25th, replacing DePaul.
