McCormack will transfer from Washington to UConn
HARTFORD, Conn. -- University of Washington center Jessica McCormack says she will transfer to Connecticut.
The 6-foot-5 freshman, who is currently playing for the New Zealand national team, confirmed a report in The Hartford Courant that she has accepted a scholarship offer from UConn.
"I am obviously very excited about this, as it is an amazing opportunity," she said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Friday.
Connecticut officials said they can't comment until McCormack enrolls.
She appeared in 19 games for Washington last season, averaging just under eight points and just over four rebounds per game.
McCormack would have to sit out the 2008-09 season.
