MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota extended women's basketball coach Pam Borton's contract through the 2013-14 season.

The extension dissolves the final three years of Borton's current seven-year contract, signed in 2004. In six seasons, Borton has guided the Gophers to five NCAA tournament appearances. They have a record of 132-61 and a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0 since she was hired in 2002.

"Minnesota is where I want to be for a long time," Borton said. "This is a special place and one of the best places to coach college women's basketball in the nation, because of the support and our fans.

"It's a joy to coach these student-athletes, and I am excited about the future."

According to the school, Borton's pay will be in the top third of women's basketball coaches in the Big Ten. Her base salary for this season is $405,000, excluding supplemental income and various incentives. In all, she's guaranteed $2.67 million over the next six years.

Her several bonuses include $100,000 for a national championship, $80,000 for a Final Four appearance, and $50,000 for finishing first in the conference during the regular season.
