HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut freshman guard Caroline Doty will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in Saturday's win over Syracuse.
A MRI exam showed that Doty tore the ACL, the school announced Sunday. It's the same knee that was surgically repaired in September 2007.
"I can check the waiver wire, but it doesn't work that way in college," coach Geno Auriemma said. "You have to go with who you have. It's not like we have any other choices."
Doty, who had 17 first-half points in the 107-53 win Saturday, went down while trying to grab a pass on a fast break just before intermission. She has started every game for the top-ranked Huskies and was averaging 8 points.
UConn takes on No. 2 North Carolina on Monday night in Chapel Hill.
