Tennessee signs Summitt through 2014
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pat Summitt has signed a contract extension that will keep her at Tennessee through 2014, which would be her 40th season as Lady Volunteers coach.
Summitt will make $1.4 million for the 2008-09 season and receive a $200,000 bonus for Thursday night's 73-43 win over Georgia -- her 1,000th victory.
The Hall of Fame coach was set to earn $1.275 million this year under her previous contract, which was set to expire in 2012.
Summitt will receive two lifetime achievement bonuses as part of the contract extension, a $500,000 bonus in 2009-10 and a $1 million longevity bonus in 2013-14.
The 56-year-old Summitt leads all Division I basketball coaches -- men's and women's -- with her 1,000 career wins and has won eight national championships.
