Inglese hired to coach Rhode Island

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- Cathy Inglese was hired Tuesday as head coach of women's basketball at Rhode Island.

Inglese resigned from Boston College last year after 15 seasons. She won 20 games eight times and reached the NCAA tournament in seven of her last 10 seasons.

She'll replace Tom Garrick, who went 56-112 in five seasons at Rhode Island.

Inglese, who has a 393-253 career record, spent seven seasons at Vermont before arriving at Boston College.

Garrick was a star player at Rhode Island and played for the Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks.
