Bonvicini introduced at Seattle
SEATTLE -- Joan Bonvicini missed coaching during her year out of the profession.
Even she was a bit surprised that what she says is a perfect opportunity to return would arise during the summer at a school reclassifying to Division I status.
Bonvicini was introduced on Tuesday as the new women's basketball coach at Seattle University. One of only 18 coaches in Division I history with more than 600 victories, Bonvicini takes over a program that's without a conference and still four seasons away from being eligible for the NCAA tournament.
But Bonvicini, who was fired from Arizona in March 2008 after 17 years, says she welcomes the challenge. She brings a career record of 612-294 to Seattle after coaching stops at Arizona and Long Beach State.
