UConn, Stanford set for 1 vs. 2 battle

Connecticut and Stanford remain 1-2 in the ESPN/USA Today women's basketball poll heading into their Wednesday night showdown in Hartford, Conn.

The Huskies (9-0) received all 31 first-place votes, while Stanford (9-0) picked up all 31 second-place votes in the latest rankings, released Tuesday. The two teams square off at the XL Center (5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2). The Cardinal beat top-10 teams Duke and Tennessee last week.

Notre Dame (10-0) moved up to third, edging No. 4 Tennessee (9-1). The Lady Vols lost to Stanford 67-52 on Dec. 19. Baylor (11-1) remained No. 5.

There were plenty of shakeups in the rest of the rankings, however. Ohio State (12-1) climbed a spot to sixth, followed by North Carolina (9-1), which moved up three spots to seventh. Duke (9-2) remained eighth, followed by Georgia (10-0) and Texas A&M (9-1).

Florida State, ranked sixth last week, fell to 11th after losing to DePaul on Sunday. LSU (9-1) dropped three spots to 12th after losing its first game of the season to Nebraska (which climbed four spots to 14th). Xavier (8-2) is 13th.
