Delle Donne scores 39 to tie record
NEWARK, Del. -- Freshman sensation Elena Delle Donne tied Delaware's school record with 39 points to help the Blue Hens beat Buffalo 85-72 on Tuesday night.
Delle Donne was 15-for-23 from the field, including hitting four 3-pointers. She added nine rebounds and four assists for the Blue Hens (7-3), who have won five straight. Tesia Harris added 23 points for Delaware, hitting all six of her 3-point attempts.
Delle Donne matched the 29-year old record set by Lori Howard against Temple on Jan. 27, 1981. Buffalo coach Linda Hill-MacDonald was actually in charge of Temple when Howard set the mark.
The 39 points were the most scored at the Bob Carpenter Center, although Delle Donne did score 50 in high school at the arena.
Delle Donne was averaging 23.4 points and 8.7 rebounds coming into the game.
