Dixon resigns as Furman coach
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman women's basketball coach Sam Dixon has resigned following a 7-23 season. He had coached the Southern Conference school for eight years.
The school announced his resignation Tuesday and has not set a timetable for a replacement.
This year's team lost 16 of 20 league games and ended the year dropping 11 of its last 12 games. During his stay at Furman, Dixon's teams went 102-135 overall and 63-89 in the conference.
Dixon went 52-34 in first three seasons. After an 18-10 record in the 2004-05 season, the Paladins lost 20 games each of the following three seasons and went 12-18 in 2008-09.
