Xavier promotes Amy Waugh as coach
CINCINNATI -- Xavier has promoted Amy Waugh to women's basketball coach, succeeding Kevin McGuff.
Waugh was an assistant to McGuff the past two seasons. McGuff left for Washington after Xavier was knocked out in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Waugh was introduced at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
The move gives Xavier former players leading its basketball programs, as both Waugh and men's coach Chris Mack played for the Musketeers. Waugh was a point guard from 1999 to 2003.
Waugh also was an assistant coach for one season at Youngstown State and five seasons at Wake Forest.
