    the Paradise Jam between 12th

ST. JOHN, Virgin Island (Ticker) -- The championship game of the Paradise Jam between 12th-ranked Arizona State and No. 18 Rutgers has been canceled.

The meeting between the two ranked teams scheduled for Saturday night will not be played due to the death of a family member of Sun Devils senior forward Aubree Johnson that was in St. Thomas to watch her play.

Details surrounding the death were not disclosed, but Arizona State coach Charli Turner Thorne released a statement.

"This morning the Arizona State women's basketball program suffered a tragic loss," she said. "The ASU basketball family extends well beyond the players and coaches listed on the roster.

"It includes the families and loved ones of every player, coach and support staff member in the program. When one of them encounters a loss, it is a loss that is shared by every member of the 'family.' With that it mind the team decided that it would be best to not go forward with playing Rutgers in tonight's championship game."

Johnson has averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in starting all six games for the Sun Devils (5-1), who advanced to the title game with a 67-63 victory over Western Kentucky on Friday.

Arizona State will host Boston University in its next game on December 1.
