Nord scored 25 points and Nero 22 for Cardinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Sara Nord scored 25 points and Lori Nero added 22 as Louisville withstood Ashley McElhiney's school-record 17 assists to post a 92-82 victory over Vanderbilt (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today; No. 12 Associated Press) on Thursday night.

The Cardinals (7-4) trailed 21-18 midway through the first half before going on a 14-1 run. Nero, who scored five points during the run, had 17 in the first half on 8-for-8 shooting.

Vanderbilt cut the lead to 38-32 with 2:43 left in the half, but the Cardinals' Sabrina Minter scored the last seven points to give Louisville a 45-32 halftime lead. Vanderbilt didn't get closer than seven in the second half, on a basket by Abi Ramsey with 1:28 left.

Minter added 18 points for the Cardinals.

Chantelle Anderson scored 25 on 11-for-16 shooting to lead the Commodores. Jenni Benningfield, who's from Louisville and was Kentucky's Miss Basketball in 2000, added 18 points.

McElhiney's assist total broke the previous school mark of 15, held by several players.
