FREEPORT, Bahamas (AP) -- Janel McCarville had a career-high 27 points and added eight rebounds in Minnesota's 84-61 victory over Southern California on Saturday night in the championship game of the Junkanoo Jam's Lucayan division.

Lindsay Whalen added 15 points, seven assist and five rebounds, and Shannon Schonrock had 13 points for the Gophers (No. 9 ESPN/USA Today; No. 11 AP).

Minnesota (5-0) blew open a close game in the first 10 minutes of the second half behind the play of McCarville in the post and the excellent ball handling and passing of Whalen on the perimeter.

Jamie Higaya led Southern Cal (1-2) with 12 points, Rometra Craig added 11 and Ebony Hoffman had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Minnesota forced 30 turnovers and outrebounded USC 49-31.
